Hookah Hygiene Tips: How To Have Safer Sessions During a Pandemic

Hookah Hygiene Tips: Safer Sessions During a Pandemic

It’s been well over a year since Coronovirus showed up around the globe and unfortunately, it looks like it might be sticking around for a while longer. There’s a ton of information online about what to do and what not to do in order to keep from getting sick or spreading the virus to loved ones, so we’ve collected what we think are the best hookah hygiene tips for the safest sessions possible.

Disclaimer: we’re not doctors! We’re not trying to diagnose any illnesses or replace medical advice. If you think you are sick or have come into contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, please contact your doctor immediately and follow their directions. We know you know this, but we wanted to make sure to say it.

Don’t Share Your Hookah

Finally, an excuse to keep your shisha to yourself! While typically sharing your hookah is good session etiquette, you might be sharing more than you bargained for (like germs!) every time you pass the hose. If possible, try not to use the same hookah as anyone else, even if you think you and they are perfectly healthy. Even if you look and feel healthy, you can still carry and spread the virus and other illnesses to others through your breath and saliva. To be safe, get into the habit of having multiple hookahs on hand or encourage your friends to bring their own!

Hookah Hygiene Tips Disposable Hose and Hookah

Use Disposable Hookah Hoses and Hookah Mouthpieces

Pandemic aside, it’s a great idea to keep a few disposable hoses and mouthpieces on hand just in case! We carry a wide variety of disposable hoses, including the Fumari Disposable Hose and Mazaya Small and Medium Disposable Hoses. We also offer a ton of hookah mouthpieces to choose from including our hygienic and budget friendly disposable plastic hookah mouthpieces.

Additionally, you can pick up a low-cost acrylic hookah to keep on hand for gatherings or in case friends drop by. We carry both the medium and large sizes of the Mazaya Acrylic Hookahs at SouthSmoke.com! Though they’re labeled as disposable, these heavy-duty single-hose plastic hookahs are durable enough to wash and reuse and even come with a plastic disposable hookah hose so you have everything you need for a hygienic hookah session right out of the box.

Clean Your Hookah Thoroughly After Every Session

We don’t have to tell you that one of the key parts of hookah hygiene is thoroughly cleaning your hookah after every session. Not only will this help minimize the transfer of germs, dust, and other nasties, but it will also prolong the life of your hookah and give you better sessions!

You can find a variety of Hookah Cleaning Supplies at SouthSmoke.com, including the popular Formula 420 Cleaning Solution with varieties for glass, metal, and plastic acrylic. Even outside the pandemic, it’s a good idea to get into the practice of cleaning your hookah thoroughly after each session. We even put together a handy How-To video to walk you through the process of getting (and keeping) your hookah spic and span!

If You’re Not Feeling Well, Don’t Smoke!

We know it’s tempting to break out your favorite Mint or Menthol hookah flavors when you’re feeling congested, but it will likely do you more harm than good. Smoking, especially daily smoking for long periods of time takes a toll on your immune system and keeps your body from being able to heal properly. COVID-19 is a respiratory illness so it’s important to keep your lungs as healthy as possible. Smoking, no matter what type, makes it harder for your body to fend off infection— especially one in your lungs.

Use Caution and Common Sense

It goes without saying, the most important tip we can give you is to use caution and common sense. “Better safe than sorry” also applies to your hookah sessions. If something feels unsafe, it probably is. Avoid risky situations and be mindful not to put others at risk. We can all play a part in slowing the spread of COVID-19, one session at a time.
